Making a Splash with Firefighters
By Miss W
On Friday the firefighters came back to visit us. They had to go to a fire before they saw us so we were very lucky to have them. They reviewed what we had learnt last time and then we got to have a squirt of the big fire hose. It was so much fun! It was a windy day and sometimes the wind blew the water back in our faces which made us laugh. After that we got to climb into the fire truck. Thank you firefighters for visiting us again.
Firefighters Visit
By Miss W
Last week we were lucky to have the firefighters visit. They taught us about good and bad fires. A good fire is safe and always has an adult present like a barbeque or a log fire in your house that has a safety guard. A bad fire is unsafe and also does not have an adult around. A bad fire situation could be a child playing with matches or clothes draped over lamps in bedrooms.
The firefighters spoke to us about the importance of working smoke alarms and taught us what to do if clothes catch fire – STOP, DROP, COVER (your face) and ROLL. If there is fire in the house you need to CRAWL DOWN LOW AND GO, GO, GO.
It is also important for children to know their address if they ever need to call 0, 0, 0.

We are budding photographers!
By Miss W
As part of our inquiry unit about change, “From this to that,” we are learning about living and non-living things. We went out into the playground to take some photos. Before we took the photos we talked about perspective and angles.
Leave us a comment and tell us what do you think of our photos?
Phonics Song
By Miss W
A great phonics song to help learn the letters and sounds of the alphabet.
This one is great for learning upper and lower case letters as well as the sounds. These clips are also on the Literacy Page of our blog.
A big week of birthdays!
By Miss W
Last week we celebrated lots of birthdays in Prep W. Trinity turned 5 and Oscar turned 6. We also celebrated Lucas’ birthday who is 6 today! Trinity, Oscar and Lucas brought in some lovely things to share for their birthdays so we were all very spoilt.
Trinity brought in balloons with elastic bands on the end for bouncing. We played with the balloons and later we all wrote about it. This strategy is called Language Experience and it is an effective strategy that teachers use to make links between oral language, writing and reading.
Happy birthday Trinity, Oscar and Lucas!
Student Awards
By Miss W
Recently these fabulous children received awards for their wonderful efforts.
Rohan won the first Community Award for the year for being Welcoming. The concept of Welcome was our whole school goal for the term as part of our 2012 motto “To Live With An Open Heart”. Rohan is welcoming to everyone and encourages others to join in his activities and games. He also uses people’s names when speaking to them and is friendly to all he meets. Well done Rohan these are wonderful attributes.
Taj, Oscar, Mia and Aidan received Students of the Week for great achievements in class. Congratulations to you and keep up the great work!
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
By Miss W
On Friday we dressed up in green to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We learnt all about Saint Patrick and then our buddies helped us make our own version of him. We had a fun day.

Blowing Bubbles…learning about ‘b’
By Miss W
This week we have been learning about the letter ‘b’ and the sound it makes. We:
- made bears
- read and sang Wheels on the Bus
- played Letter Getter on the computers focussing on ‘b’
- learnt and practised how to write the letter b
- blew bubbles which was brilliant fun!
Afterwards, we each orally composed a sentence on video because talking is so important. Then we drew a picture and wrote about it too. Check it out below!
